Here's an artist we don't see too many recordings from.

As I was tracking this, I began to remember all the popular radio hits he recorded.

It made me think how great would it have been if Melloncamp and Tom Petty would have done a US tour together back in the 80's.

According to the February 1986 edition of Creem Magazine, Mellencamp wanted to incorporate the sound of classic '60s rock into Scarecrow,

and he gave his band close to a hundred old singles to learn "almost mathematically verbatim" prior to recording the album.

Some of which can be heard after the band introductions, Melloncamp does a run of classic covers.

Mellencamp also helped organize the first Farm Aid benefit concert with Willie Nelson and Neil Young in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985.

Mellencamp was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 10, 2008.

I listened to the band introductions (not easy to hear) and looked on wiki. The members I compiled may not be complete, I know i'm missing at least 1 person.

I couldn't identify the drummer, though Kenny Aronoff was the known drummer during this time period.

Also not sure if Larry Crane was involved on guitar.

band members: (my best guess)
Mike Wanchic guitars, backing vocals (1976present)
Larry Crane guitars, backing vocals (19761991) (not mentioned)
Kenny Aronoff drums (19801996) (not mentioned)
Toby Myers bass, backing vocals (19821999)
John Casella keyboards, saxohone, accordion (19841992)
Lisa Germano - violin (19851994)
Pat Peterson - backup singer (19812006)
Crystal Taliefero - congas, backup singer (19851989)

Thanks to Tape Man Joe for capturing this rarely heard recording and thanks to George14k for doing the transfer
