This was my second time seeing/recording John Fogerty. I saw him over 5 years before this show at the same venue, but had a crappy seat and even crappier gear. This time I lucked out on the last ticket in my section for $20 and the sound was very good. Lukas Nelson opened the show and he put on a great performance. Before John Fogerty started, there was a painfully long introductory slide show that went on at least 20 minutes. Some of it was interesting, but many people were getting annoyed with how long it went on. It said John owns over 300 guitars and tours with 25 of them. The slide show also featured some shameless advertising for John's upcoming album, which let us know 3 times before the show started that it will be out in early 2013. Then there was a video with short interview clips, followed by the start of the show.
John said he had, "never been in this beautiful place before," which was a lie. He played the exact same building over 5 years earlier, and he played at a speedway about 30 miles away in Vernon in 2011. I think he realized he was wrong right away by people on the floor yelling at him. This night they played the Bayou Country album along with everything else you see in the setlist. John was making fun of the Grateful Dead while talking about Woodstock, claiming they put half a million people to sleep. Most people were laughing along. The arena was not a full house. The bowl was probably 80% filled, and the floor was only half full, with no seats at all in the second half. At times it seemed like there was not much in the way of applause from much of the crowd, but I think it was because of the lack of people on the floor. There was a large gap in the back half of the floor where the goons roamed all night. I think 1 person out of the whole crowd lit up.
This recording turned out very well, largely due to how good the sound was and my location. I've included some pictures from the show I found online.
