John Hiatt
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 6, 2013

Again this year recorded from KBOO FM 90.7 here in Portland. A volunteer radio station that has broadcast the festival each and every year. It has become a huge festival & we stopped going due to the big crowds. I now record all that I can & enjoy sharing with you all. As with any all volunteer station there are a few blurps along the way, which I have "fixed" as well as I can. Enjoy, twofthrs

John Hiatt has long occupied a singular place among American singer-songwriters. He's an artist who twists rock and soul and blues and R&B into rhythmic shapes that echo the deep and surprising way he sees things. As the Los Angeles Times once wrote, "(Hiatt) writes the funniest sad songsand the saddest funny songs of just about anybody alive."

He began his solo career in 1974, and over the next decade ran through a number of different styles from rock & roll to new wave pop before he finally settled on a rootsy fusion of rock & roll, country, blues, and folk with his 1987 album, Bring the Family. Though the album didn't set the charts on fire, several of the songs on the record became hits for other artists. Following its success, Hiatt became a reliable hit songwriter for other artists and developed a strong cult following of his own.

Hiatt has sung and written about almost everything for almost everyone. He's at once a folk singer, a soul man, a rocker and a poet. He's a Nashville favorite, a road warrior and a studio veteran. He's written about John Lee Hooker, Ronnie Milsap and Elvis. He writes funny sad songs and sad funny songs. Bob Dylan, Willie Nelson, B.B. King, Bonnie Raitt, Rosanne Cash, Linda Ronstadt and Aaron Neville among many others have made hits of his songs.
