Preliminary remark 2:

This here is NO reseed.

Checking the DIME-bot i found out that a torrent with
another recording of this concert here has been removed

There are no other informations about this upload availabe.

THIS TORRENT HERE COMES, FRESHLY TRANSFERRED,
FROM THE UNTRADED (so far...) MASTER DAT.

Preliminary remark 2:

As far as I know NONE of this recording was ever used commercially.

This recording here comes directly from the "Men With Microphones" archive.
"MWM" started in the 70ies in South Germany with analog recording equipment,
and at least two of them are still recording sometimes (since the 90ies on DAT,
and, lazy as we are, since lately with small, handheld WAV-recorders on SD-cards).
The "MWM" startet as a project of friends sharing their hobbies together. But by
reason of jobs, partners and other interests the circle of all involved shrinked.

John Hiatt (born August 20, 1952 in Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.) is an American rock
guitarist, pianist, singer, and songwriter. He has played a variety of musical styles
on his albums, including New Wave, blues and country. Hiatt has been nominated for eleven
Grammy Awards and has been awarded a variety of other distinctions in the music industry.

Hiatt was working as a songwriter for Tree International, a record company in Nashville
when his song "Sure As I'm Sittin' Here" was covered by Three Dog Night. The song became
a top forty hit, earning Hiatt a recording contract with Epic Records. Since then he has
released eighteen studio albums and two live albums. His songs have been covered by a
variety of artists in multiple genres, including Bob Dylan, Willy DeVille, Linda Ronstadt,
Bonnie Raitt, Eric Clapton, B.B. King, Willie Nelson, Jesse Brand, Three Dog Night, Joan
Baez, Paula Abdul, Buddy Guy, the Desert Rose Band, Jimmy Buffett, Mandy Moore, Iggy Pop,
Emmylou Harris, Kathy Chiavola, Rodney Crowell, Nick Lowe, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band,
Rosanne Cash, Jewel, Aaron Neville and Keith Urban. Also the Dutch singer/songwriter
Ilse DeLange recorded the album "Dear John" with 9 of his songs.

Common knowledge, i hope.

I like this description here a lot:

John Hiatt has a voice you can swim in - deep, warm, a little gritty. It moves slowly in
spots, pools up, muddies into a thick groove, then hits a snag and runs clear.

You probably know Hiatt's voice. Songs off his 1987 breakthrough record "Bring the Family,"
1988's "Slow Turning," 1990's "Stolen Moments," 1993's "Perfectly Good Guitar," 1995's
"Walk On" and 1997's "Little Head" made their way up the charts, got their share of AAA
radio play and helped build him a dedicated following.

You definitely know his songs. They've been covered by Bonnie Raitt ("Thing Called Love"),
Ronnie Milsap ("Old Habits [Are Hard to Break]"), the Neville Brothers ("Washable Ink"),
Bob Dylan ("Across the Borderline," "The Usual") and, just this summer, Eric Clapton and
B.B. King ("Ridin' With the King").

Sonny Landreth (born February 1, 1951) is a American blues musician from southwest Louisiana
who is especially known as a slide guitar player. He was born in Canton, Mississippi, but
soon after, his family moved to Jackson, Mississippi, before settling in Lafayette, Louisiana.
When he is not touring and performing, he resides in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.
Also common knowledge, i hope.

About this concert here:

John Hiatt & The Goners live at the Prime Club,
Cologne, Germany on Nov 17, 2003

It has been a while. As far as I remember, the last gig of John Hiatt with a
band (The Nashville Queens) here in Germany was in 1997 during the Little Head
Tour. He had been here after that only for some solo promo shows (like in Bremen
in Nov 2000). The reason is quite simple! 'The German tax is killing us', John
told me in Utrecht, Holland 2002, when Laura and I met him after the show!
During his 2003 Tour he obviously decided to come to Germany for a single show
knowing that he and the band won't make any money here in Germany. Look at the
price, a ticket for 22 Euros, about 20 US Dollars. I'm definitely sure he played
for free this night, not to disappoint all his fans here in Germany again.
During the 2002 Tour all shows in Germany were cancelled and it was such a
disappointment for all his fans here! (That's why I decided to see John in
Holland).
So thank you John Hiatt for coming around. It was soooo good to see you again
here even though it was only for a single show...in Cologne, Germany, at the
Prime Club...on a Monday evening!

What a great evening it was! That night in Cologne was REALLY a blast! It was
sooo amazing! John Hiatt and the Goners were rocking the Kölner Dom (cathedral)
away :-)). This very small venue had such a special intimate atmosphere,
absolutely packed, I guess about 200-300 people (YES!), the sound was so perfect
(thanks Robert Bloomfield) and John and the band were in a very very good form.
We all could see that John and the Band had a lot of fun playing this night. Not
only for the Germans but also for crazy people like Emile (Webmaster of
thejohnhiattarchives) and Rhonda, the CMG (crazy monkey girl). She crossed the
big pond to see three shows in Belgium and Holland and one in Cologne. We three
and all others enjoyed the show so much that night! To me, it was one of John's
best rock shows I've ever seen and Rhonda and Emile mentioned that too! Really
an unforgotten evening for us all!

I especially liked the 9 minute version of 'Feels Like Rain' and
Mem...phis...how,how,how,how!

Of course we met John after the show, when he came out for signing. It felt a
bit flattered that he remembered me! I met him with Laura after the shows at the
Birchmere this year on May 18+20 in the USA. John told me about his plans coming
back next year (to Germany too!) for some solo shows. He is planning a new
acoustic CD next sommer. The title might be 'Cold River', a song he played in
Holland a week ago. On the new CD there will be a lot of new acoustic stuff as
well as 'Train to Birmingham'. This song has never been released officially (as
so many). But all Hiatt fans know this song from Crazy Al's CD, which was once
shared through SOR as far as I know!

By the way I don't want to forget Tim Easton. He was opening the show and I had
seen him for the first time at the Birchmere in 2001, when he opened for John
Hiatt as well. He's a great singer/songwriter, his three CDs are still available
and there's a link to his website on my links section. I can only recommend his
music to you all! He's really great!

I would love to greet all German fans who talked to me before and after the show
because they knew me from my website. AND it was so nice to meet Maren Kumpe
after the show for the first time. She's the Label Manager of Sanctuary Records
in Germany and has supplied me with so much Hiatt stuff since we've got in
contact. Thanks a lot Maren, I truly appreciate it!

Once again thank you Rhonda and Emile for coming around and enjoying the show
with me. It was so nice to meet you Rhonda, the crazy monkey girl and so nice to
see crazy Emile again.
Isn't music a wonderful gift? It can bring people together from different
countries, enjoying music and having so much fun. And I'm thinking of YOU, Laura
in DC, while I'm still in Hiatt Heaven. The Hiatt Heaven we experienced that
night!
Thanks again to you ALL, to Robert and NineYear, The Goners and John Hiatt. For
all you transported to us! Hope to see you all pretty soon.

All the best! Take good care all.
Juergen

Here are some pics from an incredible evening! Enjoy! Many thanks to Holger

For our friends in Germany :

This category is quite new in my uploads, but ESSENTIALLY NECESSARY ! As all you foreigners
might know right now, last weekend we had elections in Germany. "Mama" Angie made it again
as chancellor (is the female word chancellorette ??), but she's got a brandnew vice, our dear
Guido Westerwelle (Westerwave). And as our designed new Aussenminister (minister of coming out)
he proclaimed to talk Deutsch in Deutschland (answering a BBC reporter that asked in English
and wanted an english answer...). So please improve your German...NOTHING FOR UNGOOD !
BTW:
Again what learned - wieder was gelernt...

BACK TO JOHN:

Konzertberichte

John Hiatt Hiatt and the Goners am 17.11.03 im Prime Club Köln.
Erstaunlicherweise blieben "Circle Back" und "Almost Fed Up With The
"Feels Like Rain","Riding With The King" und "Is Anybody There".
Have A Little Faith In Me"
In The Meantime" wieder mit. Wieder verschwand die Band, um zu einer zweiten Zugabe wieder
zu erscheinen und diesmal mit "Thing Called Love" wirklich nach 1 Stunde und 40 Minuten den
Abend ausklingen zu lassen. John Hiatt gab für die gebliebenen Gäste nach einer Stunde Pause
noch ein paar Autogramme, und ich hatte das Glück gehabt eines davon abzubekommen und dem
Maestro persönlich die Hand zu schütteln.

Two more here:

erneuten Konzerterlebnis nichts entgegensprach.

About this recording:

THIS TORRENT HERE COMES, FRESHLY TRANSFERRED, FROM THE UNTRADED (so far...)
MASTER DAT - AND AS IT'S A "FK" RECORDING - NOTHING MORE TO ADD...except:

It was recorded (just a little on the hot side, but thanks to DAT there was
enough headroom...) front row near the PA-system inmidst a crowd of journalists
and photographers (sometimes a few clicks and cameraflashes can be heard, but
not too obtrusive !). If you read all the above descriptions, the number of
spectators differs between 200 to 800...the truth is somewhere in the middle.
John and the Goners played in front of a mighty impressed, respectful cheering
but for all that extremely enthusiastic audience...and this recording is a
result of both, the excellent performance and the analogical crowd behaviour -
check the samples, especially the third one, John solo with his keyboard !

Cologne (or in German: Köln - local dialect: Kölle) is Germany's fourth-largest
city (after Berlin, Hamburg and Munich), and is the largest city both in the
German Federal State of North Rhine-Westphalia and within the Rhine-Ruhr Metro-
politan Area, one of the major European metropolitan areas with more than ten
million inhabitants. It is one of the oldest cities in Germany, having been
founded by the Romans in the year 38 BC, and lies on the River Rhine.

If you decide to download this show, won't you please consider posting a comment
on the show's board? It only takes a moment, and believe me, it takes A LOT longer
to prepare/upload a show for others to enjoy than it does to download and run...

You know, our friend Dave T says: "There's always more to come..."
And i'll promise you to keep MY tapes coming...
