I got this in a trade quite a while ago, and it came to me with the date 4/17/82, but no information as to venue or location. I'm not sure that the date on this show is accurate, but if it is, it's pretty definitely someplace on the East Coast of the US. If anyone recognizes it an already known Translators show, please chime in with any details that will clear things up.
Ian (glasnost19) seeded a Translators show a few weeks ago and mentioned in comments possibly posting a Carnegie Hall Translators show from NYC that had a July 82 date. He was looking for a bit more info before uploading it. I looked at the shows I had and thought July 82 was unlikely because of known European dates for the band at that time. I suggested that the likelihood of a NYC gig for them would've been in April to line up with other known East Coast US show dates.
I thought this might be the same as Ian's Carnegie show-his loacation and my date adding up to that gig. It turns out, however, that his show and mine are different. This was determined due to different track times and the inclusion in my show of the tune Aspan.
This show was seemingly from a tape source, and may have been recorded on a cassette recorder because of sound seemingly coming from pausing or stopping a cassette that you'll hear at one point. The show came to me with 2 tracks which I guess were the A and B sides of a cassette. I've split it into the individual tracks in this torrent. There's also a slight discrepancy in volume on what were the 2 tracks, so tracks 6-8 here will sound a little different.
Overall, this is a decent sounding audience capture from a great band that isn't as well represented in recordings of McLaughlin's shows as it should be. My hope is that this is indeed a "new" show for many of us, and that someone will piece together where the venue might've been.
In any case, if my 4-17-82 info is wrong, this doesn't seem to match any of the Translators shows that are currently up on the tracker, and it'll hopefully be a nice addition to anyone who grabs it.
Please support all of these great artists by purchasing their commercially released output and by paying to see them live.
