Seeding this now, a few days after the show's 40th anniversary. This was upped and seemingly recorded by fzmoi69 several years ago, and all props and gratitude to him for making this available then.
The Translators was one of the few McLaughlin projects that I missed seeing live going back to, and including, the days of the mighty performances from the original MO. I regret that, because I really love both of the albums that this band produced, Belo Horizonte and Music Spoken Here. This was a band featuring John on nylon stringed acoustic in the company of what was THE cutting edge digital keyboard of the time, the Synclavier. That was handled by Katia Labeque, who was/is a reknowned classical pianist. John and Katia were "an item" in those days, and they indeed "made some beautiful music together". There was a rumor at the time that John literally wrote out the solos which Katia would play, although I personally think that might be a little sexist and/or demeaning to her own formidable musicianship. Still not sure that him doing that can be verified.
The Translators did not have a long life as a touring project, and this particular performance is a well recorded audience that's better than many I've heard. There is a little bit of ambient talk seemingly from the recorders about batteries and other things here and there, along with the few yells of audience members who confused a concert with a sporting event. That said, it's a fine band and music that can be appreciated from this particular show and share. Not sure why Stardust was split here into 2 tracks, but it doesn't appear that any music was lost.
Please support the players you admire by purchasing their commercially released material and by paying to see them live.
