comments:
this was given to me by jazzdave on CD in 20 tracks.
I have balanced the levels in it and put it
back together into the correct number of tracks
for what may be its 1st posting (1st from me of
this show). It's probably an analog audience
tape source of low but unknown generation, not great
sound but VG for a 1982 audience recording. It
is a fine and passionate performance, the crowd liked
it and the sound mix is pretty good. Can there ever
be too much John McLaughlin? um, not really.
can there ever be too many live versions of "aspan"?
No way. maybe the best John song of the early 1980's.
this one is really nice. I don't know if this was a
shorter than usual show or incomplete recording, I think
it's a festival of sorts gig so not as long as usual
Translators show. Pretty close though. I saw this tour
about 9 weeks before this gig and enjoyed it. this one
sounds like they had a little more time to play together.
I've heard about 5 or 6 of these shows, this is one of the
better performances (Edmonton, Alberta is also very nice,
so is Juan Le Pins, France) and yet another John band that's
just not quite like any other band. this was the year
between Al/John/Paco acoustic guitar trio tours and some
of that influence shows in this tour.
do not sell this recording.
