Notes: I had received this in trade with a date of 04-01-69. If that date was correct, this would have been a few months before his unscheduled appearance at Woodstock, and about 9 months before the release of his first album in January 1970 on MGM, John B. Sebastian.

Something told me the date was incorrect so after much research, I'm comfortable with the date of 10-04-69. Bill Graham Productions were presenting CSNY, Blues Image, and John Sebastian from 10/2-4/69, at the Fillmore West and Winterland, according to one of the old Graham posters.

In John's intro and Bill Graham's outro, they make reference to "David's fiancee" and the fact that CSNY were not performing and that they would be back at Winterland Nov 13-16. Graham had brought in some fill in bands to take CSNY's place (not bad for so called fill ins - It's A Beautiful Day, Santana, Richie Havens!). While CSNY were rehearsing for the Winterland gig at Crosby's new home in Novato, north of San Francisco, one afternoon, Crosby's lady, Christine Gale Hinton, took their cats to the vet in Crosby's VW bus. She was killed in a head-on collision and Crosby was never again the same. That same day, the first CSN album went gold.

CSNY did come back and perform Nov 13-16, 1969 with Cold Blood, Joy of Cooking, and Lamb at Winterland according to another old Graham poster.

Graham in his outro also refers to some "saturday night yokels" and 10-04-69 was a Saturday night. Janis Joplin was scheduled to perform "tomorrow night" and Janis and the Kosmic Blues Band did play Winterland, Sunday, 10-05-69.

This show is excellent considering the age of the recording (35 years!), but it does have a few glitches:

t101: Static bursts at 29 secs. and at 40 secs.
t105: Pop at 24 secs. (no impact on music)
t113: Minor pop remnant (I cleaned up most of it) at 09 secs. and some quick static or distortion at 11 secs. and again at 19. secs
t114: Slight remnant of a fixed dropout (I got most of it) at 28 secs .
t117: Static at 18 secs.

I edited a bunch of silence that didn't enhance the show and any glitches where I could. The remaining glitches I felt would be best left alone as any attempt to fix them would either chop off vocals or music. The volume was equalized between tracks as well.
