Johnny Winter & Dr. John, Paris, 1987 - complete audience + FM source

Johnny Winter band with Dr. John at Olympia, Paris, France, February 09, 1987

January 1987 Johnny went Europe to one more sucessfull tour, not only in the best phase of his carrer but also with a the legendary Dr. John the Nighttripper (Mac Rebenack). Dr John did have a special participation on current last LP Third Degree - and indeed would do it again in the future, on Let Me In 1991 release.

[Before this, I've only know a special TV program broadcasted by Canadian CHCH-TV, called "In Session", another SUPERB meeting. Two episodes about 24 minutes each, recorded in the same date but likely broadcasted separately. Johnny with Dr. John and Jon Paris plus unknown rhythm guitarist and drummer, most of music plus some chat. VHS copies from TV are circulating but also a bootleg Laser Disc was released in Japan. There is some debate about the right year (this recording is listed out there as 83, 84, 85, 86 or 87) but Johnny shows few tattoos (less than on Guitar Slinger cover which was released on the beginning of '84) and use only the Firebird - no Lazer guitar, the standard from "Guitar Slinger" on. SO I believe it's from 83 or very early 84. Are there anybody that could clear the actual date of this "In Session"??]

Many of you downloaded in the past years some of these outstanding performances and I don't have to much to talk about and add. For this one I must say that's another great performance that honors the great recordings. You'll get a complete audience recording plus a fragment from FM that I've already seem for sell on Ebay. If you want some more, go to the best JW site - Johnny Winter Story - and at http://www.yee.ch/winter/Timeline/winter_timeline_1987.html you'll see more details about this many European shows, set lists, photos and also a ticket stub of this French show.

Both recordings came from cdr trades, the FM fragment from Jeff James (roryglzep, many thanks to him) and the audience recording from another pal. Nothing about the lineage on both. As always, Cool Edit Pro software was used on both sources to edit the blancs, fix some minor flaws, adjust the levels and index the tracks.

sources:
all CD1 and CD2 up to track 5 - excellent audience recording, with great atmosphere.
CD2 from track 6 to 14 - excellent French FM broadcast.

It's very interesting to compare both sources (MP3 samples will be provided and were choosen the same songs with both sources). This is one of many examples to justify why audience recordings is preferable than professional ones, at least for me.
