Johnny Winter - August 1970, soundboard & audience recordings
MP3 samplers will be provided from both.
1) Shrine Auditorium, Rochester, New York on August 14, 1970 (about 69 minutes + 1 minute of filler track):
101. intro
102. guess I'll go away
103. good morning little school girl
104. prodigal son
105. it's my own fault [simply the best version I've ever heard, with astonishing guitar solos]
106. highway 61 revisited
107. rolling & tumbling
108. johnny b. goode [with licks of "san-ho-zay" on the guitar solo!]
109. mean town blues [with full verses of "walking blues"]
source: nice clear but distant, audience recording till track 5. Then the recording is somewhat chaotic, overloaded, cacophonous and even more distant till track 8. Track 9 has the same quality as the first five tracks.
Likely the BEST performance - by Johnny & Rick guitar solos - of the "And era" I've ever heard. Superb! Pay attention the renditions of "it's my own fault", "johnny b. goode" & "mean town blues".
filler track [excellent broadcasted recording]:
110. radio ad for Progressive Blues Experiment album [about this track: Of course this ad does have official recording snippets and previously I asked for permission to upload it, then I got the approval from jupiter2101, DIME Mod.]
Both full concert and radio ad came from Jeff James' (roryglzep, many thanks to him) original cassete tape (unknown generation), and as always, I've used my Sansui Deck D-95M, Creative Live! 24 bits sound card and Cool Edit Pro software to transfer the analog sound to digital format.
2) John O'Donnell Stadium, Davenport, Iowa on August 23, 1970 (about 79 minutes)
201. guess I'll go away
202. good morning little schoolgirl [cut out in almost 5 minutes]
203. rock'n'roll hoochie koo
204. medley: you done lost your good thing now / it's my own faulty [Johnny actually mixes the lyrics of these BBKing's classics]
205. highway 61 revisited
206. rollin' & tumblin'
rock'n'roll medley:
207. great balls of fire
208. guitar jam
209. long tall sally
210. whole lotta shakin' goin' on [one cut in the middle]
medley:
211. mean town blues [with a long guitar jam]
212. walking blues
213. mean town blues [conclusion]
214. Bobby Caldwell boogie [invented title; one minute only of a hard rock riff as intro for the (absent on my recording) drum solo]
source: very good soundboard recording, shall say excellent for this vintage, with minor problems specially on track 5; also almost every track briefly cuts in. Received in cdr by mesquite (thanx again, Glen). I've just done a few editions with Adobe Auditon 2.0 software to adjust volumes and re-index the tracks. It's a little hissy, some generations from the master tape indeed.
Absolutely SUPERB performance with astonishing guitar interplay between Johnny & Rick!
There's a bootleg sold once in a while on Ebay attributed to this date, see additional info at http://www.yee.ch/winter/Disco2/winter_disco2_andlive_davenport.htm . I don't know if my source is the same of this bootleg
I got 6 requests by 6 persons asking for both shows. Since none of them were never uploaded over here on DIME - as far as I've known - so I decided to up both shows together in the same torrent. Enjoy!
Please be patient, my bandwidth is very limited. Another JW torrent upon requests from my list. Audio ONLY please, no DVDs for while. If you've just come aboard the boat, other JW torrents, firstly uploaded by myself, still being seeded:
