What can I say, BP3 is doing it again.

I offered an incomplete version of this show back in Sept. 2009 (#268612, Contrast Clause below) & now BP3 upgrades it.

At that offer BP3 upped a photo he took, advertisement, review, etc., & I have included those in this download.

Also at the previous offer there was discussions about the date & location, which are also corrected here - Enjoy!!

Taper's Comments:

1 - HELP!! If you have any uncirculated SPIRIT shows, or better quality FM

broadcasts than what's been posted here before, please share them. If you

know anybody who has shows that fit this category that aren't on DIME, please

dub off their stuff and share it. I'm trying to write a book on SPIRIT and need

all the information I can get. I have a database of over 1500 gigs 1967-1996, and

want to find as much information as I can to add to it. If you have any memories

of where you saw SPIRIT, the more specific the better (venue, city, date, supporting

bands, etc.), I'd love to know that as well. Please leave that in the comments

section or PM me. Thank you!

2 - Show description & comments follow:

This show was broadcast live by the legendary Washington DC area radio station

WHFS-FM. Johnny played shows at "Louie's Rock City" on August 14 & 15, 1978.

I attended the show on August 14th, and they were SUPPOSED to broadcast

the August 14th show. I had given my friend Paul a Maxell UD tape to record the

show from his home in Alexandria, VA, while I attended the concert. While I was

taping concerts at this time frame, I felt it was useless to bring a recorder since

I would get a FM tape of the show, so I just concentrated on taking photos. My

recollection was that there were technical issues, and that they ended up doing

a live broadcast of the following nights show on August 15th. I remember being

very pissed off that I didn't end up with a tape of the show I saw. My personal

recollections of the show were that Johnny opened with "Hideaway", and that they

did a cover of "Wipe Out", with Bobby Torello coming out from behind the drum

kit to even play the stage surface with his drum sticks. I also remember Johnny

going into a tirade near the end of the show over the encore process. He thought

it was bullshit, so he announced they wouldn't be doing any, but would play for a

long time instead. The newspaper reviews from THE WASHINGTON POST and THE

WASHINGTON STAR the next day were highly critical of Johnny's performance, and

mentioned that he played "Come Into My Kitchen", "Brown Eyed Handsome Man",

"Rollin' And Tumblin' ", and "Susie Q". Since none of these songs were performed here,

that proves that my recollection of this being the August 15th show is correct. That

is the way the tape is marked as well. I can understand the confusion over the date

as the August 14th broadcast date was the original intention. Also understand that

this was broadcast as it happened, so any faults you hear in the recording were as

they were. Also at the end the DJ announces that "Louie's Rock City" is in Fairfax,

which is not correct, although it was in Fairfax County. Enjoy!
