Johnny Winter at Joe Sheldon Park, Humboldt, Iowa on July 02, 1989

[first of all, pay a visit to http://www.uncathon.com, a site in benefit to Uncle John Turner, long time Johnny friend and former drummer. Last week he was in ICO of a Houston hospital, liver & kidney problems. He was released from ICO this week but need our prayer and support. Johnny, Alan Haynes and many friends will play two shows in his benefit, details on the site]

It Was a hard job to choose the best '89 show to seed first, with so many good ones on hand. Early on this year there was another European tour with fabulous performances and recordings, and then the last Jon Paris days with Johnny. On May, Jeff Ganz joined the band on bass. He is my all time favorite bass player; his abilities with a 4, 5, 6, or 8-string basses, with frets or fretless, harmonies & rhythms on slow or hard tunes, are simply wonderful. Not forgetting his powerful voice and he's a loveable entertainer too. Pay also a visit to his site: www.jeffganz.com , it's worth just to see his equipament.

Besides the strong performance and a super excellent sound quality, this recording was mainly chosen for a curiosity. To my ears, for three times Johnny has introduced the drummer as Moe Potts, NOT Tom Compton. Please, each one that will download this, check it out and tell me your impressions. First time during "succotash", second just after "johnny b. goode" and third after the last encore song. Maybe my untrained ears, but three times? And it's very funny that the same occurs on June 25 show, a week before this one. Was Tom Compton on vacation? But on the June 27 show, Tom Compton is clearly introduced, go figure...

No details on lineage on this one. Got it in a cdr by snail mail trade and I've just done some editions with Adobe Auditon 2.0 software to edit the blancs, fix some minor flaws, adjust the levels and index the tracks.
