Notes: well it's almost 2 AM here and I won't post this until tomorrow but I thought I should write my impressions while still fresh in my mind. Anyway, to paraphrase somebody or other, reports of Johnny's demise are indeed GREATLY exagerated. I thought he played great and was hardly the "weird animatronic puppet" that someone mentioned from a couple of months ago. He was seated but quite animated, and played an almost non-stop 80+ minute show. All that being said there were some technical glitches, mostly some crappy vocal mic sound for the first few numbers. Personally I would have had Johnny's guitar a touch louder in the house mix but it comes across quite well on the capture. And about that capture: this was the first show I recorded with the built-in mics. Until now I have been using XLR lines-in from a soundboard feed. As this was stealth I couldn't exactly do that! So I had to dick with the levels a few times; only a very few and not really that noticeable. Overall a very enjoyable listen I would say. Probably around an A- if I was to give it a total subjective personal opinion. I am very happy with the H4n and will call my firstborn son "H4n" in its honour. Highlights of the show for me were "Black Jack" and "Mojo Boogie". But "Red House" was of course a standout too. Johnny's band had a great vibe and the house was rocking! I taped the warm-up acts too: Tony Silvestri (local) and ? James. I'll post them too if there's any interest.

Band Line-up:

Johnny Winter - lead guitar, vocals
Paul Nelson - rhythm guitar
Scott Spray - bass guitar
Vito Liuzzi - drums, lead vocals on "Tore Down", back-up vocals on "It's All Over Now"

I taped this from the 11th row of Showplace. My seating companions were ideal; 2 incredibly bored yuppies on one side who never clapped and my friend Sean who randomly happened to be sitting next to me. So apart from some claps between songs (Sean) it's a very clear capture. I bumped the mics right at the end, after Johnny had left the stage. I can't make out the title to Track 11, any of you Johnny experts out there that can help?? I'd be very happy to hear feedback, positive or negative, just be honest. This is brought to you by Out of a Hat productions. Taped by yours truly. Stay tuned folks; I plan on giving the Zoom a good workout in weeks to come!

This is the raw, unedited and untweaked transfer. If anyone wants to remaster this, go ahead...what the hell. Please share this far and wide but only in lossless format and only with all these info files intact. I'd rather this was not converted to MP3 but what can I do to stop you? :) Please support Johnny Winter by buying his official product and attending his live shows. Support your local taper!! RIP Tapecity my favourite torrent tracker.

Enjoy!
