got this years ago ,from an acqaintance who lived in London during the 80's.
i dubbed it from his tape.

so i presume its second generation fm.
i can find only several references to this ensemble on the web.. so i've used Paul Wilsons extensive John Stevens discography as a reference, this concert doesnt appear to be listed there.

the dates on the casette dont quite match, nor does the track length which is a minute shorter than stated ...but i assume that this is the broadcast in question

Jon Corbett’s Affinity Orchestra – ‘Jazz in Britain’ broadcast

Jon Corbett (tp), Alan Tomlinson (tb), Paul Rutherford (tb), Veleroy Spall (vln), Paul Rogers (b), John Stevens (d/pocket cor), Maggie Nicols (voc). Rec. BBC Radio, London, January 26th, 1983; tr: BBC R3, ‘Jazz in Britain’, Mon March 14th, 1983.

Ceremonies of innocence (Corbett) 24’56

the duration of the piece on this actual tape is -23'51"

the cassette recording is dated -14-3-1983, which may be the date of a re broadcast.

great music ,recommended to fans of SME ,SMO, GUO ect!

Linneage- tape to tape ( i deck plugged directly into the other.. back in 1987-88), 2nd gen tape (tdk Ad 90)..... akai cs 703d tape deck.. plugged directly into a Zoom h4( recorded at 48khz-24 bit)- down sampled to 44.1 khz......
---computer------ magix 12 ( eq, hiss reduction etc)-- tlh ( FLAC LEVEL 6)---- dime

on a technical note .. the original; tape recorder heads may have been slightly dirty, or the azimuth out of alignment .. the first 5 minutes or so sounds rather muddy , i vaguely recall that being a problem on on the original tape , the sound dramatically improves after that!

NB- if anyone wants the raw un eq'd, 48khz -24 bit version of the file, since im keeping that as well , id be happy to oblige and share it.

in the next few days ill be sharing the other side of the tape , and Elton Dean -soft Heap broadcast from the same year.

cheers

enjoy!!
