This tour didn't take Jonathan Byrd to the Netherlands. As Erkelenz isn't far from the Dutch/German border (approx. 220 km
from my home) I caught his show there. We left early on Saturday so we could spend some time in Erkelenz.
After checking in in our hotel, which happened to be very nice on a nice location we went to the center.
The weather was beautiful: warm for the time of the year with a clear blue sky. On the market many people were eating outside and drinking wine.
We joined them.
Then that we walked all over town. Erkelenz is an old town with many sights to see.

The venue is an old chapel, dating from around 1400. It was renovated in 1989 and since then it's used for cultural events.
As I didn't know what the sound would be like I had brought different types of mics plus cables for the soundboard
(I had planned to make a SBD/AUD matrix). However the venue doesn't have a soundboard. Everybody on stage had their own individual
amps, so I could only record with mics.
For a chappel the sound was better than I had expected.

Before the show I talked with Jonathan to ask his permisssion to record and during the break I put in my request The Law and The
Lonesome.

This was the best show I've been to this year. Jonathan was in top form, Johnny Waken is a great
multi-instrumentalist and a true showman.
When my husband, who is a professional guitar player, loves every minute of a show and was full
of it for days, that means it was excellent indeed.

Johnny Waken- electric guitar, mandoling, singing saw, harmonica, backing vocals
