Notes from the original taper:

As you can tell from the list it was a very long set, Jonathan was in
fine form and did 5 encores. Unfortunately the tape ran out before the
end and i missed "New teller" an Instrumental and a spellbinding
"Affection".

Tape quality is not the best not least because of Jonathans habit of
singing off mike and crawling around on the floor! The set does
include 2 songs I haven't heard anywhere else, "I Love Gail" is not
"Gail loves me" it's a different song and "They're mistaken" I've not
heard since.

It was recorded on a cheapo Mono Plustron radio cassette recorder,
BASF LH120 cassette, I transferred it via a Pioneer T-C3 deck into
Audacity. It was the first gig I ever recorded and did so on the spur
of the moment after seeing Jonathan at Bradford University the
previous night. The Bradford gig was totally different, Jonathan
played Roadrunner, Egyptian Reggae and Morning of our lives as well as
Buddy Holly's Peggy Sue and some other covers I think, audience there
was mixed with some not very interested at all. the Leeds gig had no
hit singles (despite the shouts from a few for Roadrunner) but the
audience were totally involved and captivated. Leeds Poly is a
standing venue but it wasn't unusual in those days for audiences to
sit on the floor and that is what happened at this gig. Because of the
late finish I missed my last bus and there were no taxis available, it
was deep in snow and snowing heavily and I had 7 miles to walk to get
home, I didn't care I was buzzing from the gig, luckily a kind driver
spotted me and offered a lift after I'd gone a mile or 2, so got home
o.k. It is still one of my favourite ever gigs, I'm still annoyed I
didn't record affection though it really was exceptional.
