Here's #4 of five Jonathan shows I captured on my Aiwa 'walkman' style recorder that I am finally digitizing after years of these cassettes sitting in a drawer.

This was one of the rare times Jonathan played a "rock" club. Usually he would play a place with seats, a cabaret or someplace more romantic than a place where mostly punk or indie rock bands appeared. There are a few moments in this show you can tell why. The Modern Lovers line up is one of my favorites with Andy Paley on drums and Brennan Totten on guitar (Andy Paley is such a great talent who always brought out the best in Jonathan).

I don't know how much of the first set I missed before Let's Take a Trip (I thought it was one show that night but it turned out to be two with the first one starting early). There's quite a bit of conversation going on next to me for a few songs in the first set.

The whole second set is here with the exception of UFO Man (which I stopped recording to save tape apparently) and the flip during Pablo Picaso (which was a shock to the audience that he played it). So you really hear the audience chatter finally get to Jonathan during Affection. He literally just pulls the plug before it's completely over. It was many years before I saw Jonathan advertised playing here again (but he eventually did Give Maxwell's One More Chance!)...Enjoy!
