Jonathan Wilson
The Bridgewater Hall
Manchester, UK
25th October 2013

I'm a newcomer to Jonathan Wilson, although judging by all the warm column inches in the music press of late he's certainly
"on the up" and building quite a following from his laid-back, Californian brand of music.
And when I say "laid back"...I mean very laid back. At times he barely touches the guitar, and seems to merely wait for
some resonnance to roll out of the sound hole when it's ready, his vocals little more than a whisper. It's not all quite
that easy mind, and his clever use of self-generated loops affords him to solo to his own accompanyment.
Unusually he both supported and performed with Roy Harper, and even more oddly, there was no break between sets...more of
a "hand-over", Roy walking on as Jonathan was finishing "Moses Pain", and taking it from there.
I enjoyed what I heard, although I'll need to explore his albums "Gentle Spirit", along with the recently released
"Fanfare" before I can pass a more conclusive judgement. On first listen - spiritual stuff!

Do what you will with it - except sell it :
You got it for nowt, you give it for nowt

His two albums, Gentle Spirit and Fanfare are attracting critical acclaim. Whilst (from what I can make out) the album
versions are a little different to these solo acoustic versions, if you like this, you'll probably like them.
You need to see him live to really feel the emotion though.
