Joni and her all-star band rolled into East Troy, Wisconsin for two shows at the Alpine Valley Music Theatre on August 16th and 17th during her critically acclaimed 1979 "Mingus" tour. By all accounts the first night was magical with a top notch band, Joni in fine voice and a setlist that was one of the best of her legendary career.
Night two though was far from magical, everything started well and was going smoothly, then 1 minute and 46 seconds into Jaco's Solo the first massive clap of thunder can be clearly heard. Thunder can be clearly heard periodically throughout the next two songs. A attendee describes a steady river of water streaming under the entire seating section. As this river of water began to pool and rise around the front of stage power was eventually cut and remainder of the concert canceled.
The capture is listenable albeit with some distance to it, it is a fascinating document of one night on the tour that even the legendary Joni Mitchell could not keep mother nature at bay.
