Here's just a few reviews on this great artist:

“Throughout Parker’s totally commanding powerhouse pipes prevail. Better yet, she comes across with honesty and conviction, never seeming to try too hard. She’s a flat-out dynamo.”
— Jim Hynes, Glide Magazine

“Multi-faceted and versatile, Joyann Parker is a song-slayer, her feet firmly planted on the floor, her vocals emanating from a deep and centered place. With a voice and range like hers, she could sing just about anything but you can hear on Out of the Dark that she’s deeply committed to each track...A class in soulful singing and songwriting...Even after repeated listens, the hair on my arms stood on end. Highly recommended.”
— Martine Ehrenclou/Rock & Blues Muse

Tapers notes: I've wanted to see Joyann for quite some time, she does a Patsy Cline tribute show that I've heard is pretty amazing. I knew her own music is more blues oriented, so I wasn't surprised by her style here, but I was definitely not expecting to be blown away like I was. This woman can play the blues like very few I've seen, and her band is top notch. She just released a new album "Roots" that I highly recommend. She's one of the midwests's hidden secrets, but hopefully not for long, she deserves to be heard by everyone. This recording is ok quality, it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. In between songs and quieter parts there is the sound of a fan blowing, it was one of the huge industrial ones so I think anywhere I would have set up it would have been audible. The show ended about 15 minutes early due to weather, and you can hear Joyann reference towards the end of the show.

"Got a mind to ramble, got a mind to roam
I’m travelin’ light and I’m slow coming home"
