The Judy Collins Birthday Party Concert Fragment 197(2-3)-05-01 reel-to-reel tape master

Hi, this tape fragment was found on the end of another concert reel. I know virtually nothing about it, except that it was recorded on Judy's birthday, May 1st, at the Santa Monica Civic Center, and that the year, prior to 1974, is most likely 1972 or 1973.

It's a rather funny event. Aside from the entire audience singing Happy Birthday, Judy wishes for bad things to happen to the cake!

She sings three songs, one in I believe to be French, and the beginning of the first one is cut off. I have *failed miserably* in getting you a setlist. I believe that I have heard the French song before, though. If you know the songs, please let us all know, and I will certainly give you credit!

If you have never heard Judy Collins sing, she sounds like an angel. The voice is so pure and crystalline, and uplifting to listen to.

This tape has a rather checkered backstory: An attempt was made several years ago to forward a copy to Ms. Collins' organization. They agreed to accept the music, but that reel mysteriously disappeared on the way to New York City. It was then thought that the music was lost.

A week or so ago, an upgraded copy was found at the end of another reel. Attempts to find anyone (to hand-deliver this music this time around to) have failed. Therefore, I am making it public here.

It's my hope to eventually return this great moment to the artist. But, for now, I hope all of you enjoy this show.

Enjoy!

A DoinkerTape

Ms. Collins, where are you?
