Welcome to Volume 17 of the JoeRay Master Series, we are pleased to present our first Soundboard capture of the series. Not only was JoeRay a prolific audience taper but on a number of occasions was granted SB access.

Joe Ray adds some thoughts about the night:
I was surprised Judy Collins would come to our little town on the Kenai River, population 5,000. Judy and her accompaniment, Russel Walden, did a beautiful and personal show for us Alaskans. The theatre was our high school theatre that holds about 600 and it was sold out. I usually have a soundboard feed except she brought along her own soundman who after some pleading allowed me to have a patch to my Sony cassette player. This was the last show I recorded on cassette with my Sony DAT arriving the following week. Most of her songs and stories were about her relationships with fellow musicians, Harry Chapin, Cat Stevens, John Denver, Ian Tyson and Bob Dylan. Sit back and give it a listen. She is in her prime and her voice never sounded better.

***************

As Joe Ray mentions, Judy puts on a very personal show telling lots of stories about her life and relationships with fellow musicians. Each story is tied to a song in the show, sometimes multiple snippets during a story and other times full versions.

One bitter sweet story is about her friend John Denver who died just over 2 weeks after this performance when his experimental plane crashed into Monterey Bay (Denver will be featured in an upcoming volume).

This is an excellent show and if you have even a casual interest in Judy and her lovely music this comes highly recommended.

There were some dropouts and possible age damage to the left channel, we did have to essentially turn this into a mono SB but, being just Judy and her piano player it did not make a noticeable difference.

Thanks to Goody for making sure Judy's voice was pitch perfect, he continues to be instrumental in all things JEMS and mjk5510 releases when it comes to being in tune.

And a massive thanks to JoeRay for not only capturing many historic tours but his continued trust in me to be the caretaker of his amazing archives of master recordings.
We have some incredibly interesting volumes yet to come!

As always we are sharing in 24/96 and 16/44.
