Jupiter Bokondji is the rebel general of Congo’s music scene. He sings heavy political and social messages laced with a sense of danger and urgency over jangling guitar riffs, funky beats and brass. He calls it Bofenia Rock – a tight, edgy combination of Afropop, traditional Congolese rhythms, funk and rock music, played with fierce energy by his band Okwess International.
