Notes: I made a new friend several months ago at the State Theater (Cracker/Vol 12.) Brian was first on line and generously offered to share his table with me. We immediately discovered that we had much in common, and he was fascinated with my recording hobby. We kept in touch after the show and even bumped into each other in the enormous crowd at the Stones' concert in July. He attends triple the number of shows that I do, and when I saw Justin Hayward on his upcoming list I decided to join him. Before the show started, Brian told me that he had an extra ticket for the following night's performance and that I was welcome to it. I said I would consider it but thought to myself that it was unlikely I would make the trek two nights in a row, especially since I couldn't remember which night my wife had invited friends over for a cookout. Then Mike Dawes hit the stage as the opener, and we were astonished by his unique, magical guitar technique. He is truly not of this earth. I couldn't imagine how he would dial it back to accompany Justin, but he did it with precision and beauty while the band delivered a great mix of old and new material. Justin was superb and swept us away as only a singer-songwriter of his stature could. It was immediately apparent after the show that I wanted to take Brian up on his offer and return the next night.
