With the exciting news that Kathleen has been doing some one off shows this summer, I wanted to offer some uncirculated (on DIME) material to welcome her back to the stage. This collection of performances was recorded at the CBC studios in January 2012 as her fourth studio album, Voyageur, was released. These recordings were captured and are presented courtesy of Jason at http://blog.haterhigh.com. Sadly, his wonderful music blog has gone silent-I wish him the best wherever he is and whatever he's doing. Jason recorded and shared a lot of wonderful music. You can still visit haterhigh-always good stories behind the taping of this and all shows he captures. All credit and thanks to him.

Watching an artist grow is indeed a privilege, particularly one of Kathleen's calibre. I first saw her perform as an opening act in early 2003 shortly after her first album "Failer" was released. I'll never forget how the main act commented that the next time Kathleen comes through town that she'll be the headliner, which was indeed the case. Funny how things work out.
I've seen her perform nearly every year since then and those concerts have always offered something new and different, whether she plays with a full band, solo, a duet, or a trio. The songs are always arranged a little differently, she tries out new material, and the covers (everything from Black Sabbath to Jeannie C. Riley to Loudon Wainwright III) are spot on.
When I heard "Chameleon/Comedian" first performed in 2009, it was a solo acoustic piece, quiet and plaintive. By 2012, it had become fully realized rocker with a new bridge and arrangement. Adding that musical phrase in the chorus ("everytime, everytime I don't need a punchline") makes the point of the song. And that arrangement that builds to a crescendo is genius. Other highlights from this compilation include the covers of "Snowbird" and "September Girls," "Soft Place to Land," the ready for radio "Sidecar," and ferocious performances of "Change the Sheets."
I remember chatting with Kathleen after that first gig in 2003 and saying, in addition to being a wonderful performance, how great the songwriting was. One of the few times in my life I've been absolutely right about something.
Many, many thanks, Kathleen, for the great music, for being taper-friendly and for hittin' the boards again! Hope to see you back out on the road again soon.
