Recording notes:
Small venue, 100 people in there. But what a great venue! Very intimate. Couches, lounge chairs, tables for my beer. It was a great place to see someone perform.

As a novice taper I never realized how much harder it is to record inside a very small venue with a singer who can go from soft acoustic tunes to strapping on an electric guitar. I’m glad the recording came out as good as it did as I was worried about my levels the more Kathleen started playing on her electric guitar. I guess reducing my levels is better than having it clip!

Show notes:
I was lucky to be in the right spot at the right time when I saw a Facebook post saying tickets for a charity benefit concert was on sale for Kathleen Edwards. 100 tickets to be sold at $100 a pop - proceeds going to help Ottawa’s Shepherds of Good Hope.

I had already seen Kathleen Edwards in the fall at Cityfolk and I felt that was a great show put on by and her the band, but this show right here was more of the Kathleen Edwards I had grown to love - tons of funny banter and great tunes in an intimate space. You can’t get any better than this. A great way to end off the year which celebrated her 20th year since her debut album Failed.

While waiting for the washroom after the show who shows up right behind but Kathleen herself! In a dumbass move I jokingly say “Oh, I suppose I should give up my spot in line for you?”. It wasn’t until the words came out of my mouth that I thought I sure sounded like a dick!

She was nice about it and we talked about how the green room doesn’t have a washroom. When a washroom did come available I insisted she go ahead and she passed her beer to the guy behind her in line and said “Can you hold this for me, thanks?” The guy looked a me with a look like “I really need to go to the washroom and now I’m stuck here with her drink!”

A good end to a great night.
