Recording notes: Unavoidable audience chatter in the Bronson Centre. Always interesting to find a good spot to record and not be around folks chatting!
General question on the use of stem splitting: I'm really enjoying Logic Pro's stem splitting feature, especially when it comes to cutting out audience chatter during instrumental portions of a show (it's still not amazing at splitting vocals into sub categories like 'main vocals' and 'audience noise'.). What's the consensus of allowing stem splitting on recordings to cut out unwanted chatting? Yay or nay in the taping community? It's the year 2025. I'm assuming there are purists out there, and there are also folks who enjoy making recordings sound a bit better. Just wondering if I should focus on stem splitting next year and if it should be allowed. Note: I did not use any for this recording, I'm just opening the discussion.
Show notes: "That might have been the best Kathleen Edwards show I have seen!" - my friend, upon exiting the show.
While I've been living in Ottawa ever since Kathleen was making the rounds in this city, I wasn't a fan until her fourth album. I've caught every tour since and it's always fun when she plays a hometown show. Turns out half the crowd consists of family and friends, as she points out a various points at this particular show.
I love the new album and the live versions of the songs are very strong and make me feel things only live music makes me feel! It was the end of the 2025 before the band takes a break and hits the road again in the Spring. Lots of great stage banter, as one would expect from a Kathleen Edwards show.
You know you're at a special show when a singer hits a silent part in a song and the silence just hangs there for a moment without any hooting or hollering. It's rare to have an audience so attentive and when it happens, it's magical.
And hey, who doesn't love an encore consisting of Powderfinger?! I believe Kathleen was playing this song at the 'Celebration of 80 years of Neil Young' event at Massey Hall 18 a few days later. Icing on the cake, my friends.
Enjoy!
