boombox's notes november 2015:

I have to admit to being late to the party as far as these ladies are concerned. However, the day after a friend showed me the Live in Hamburg show on youtube, I bought my ticket and the past five months have been a long wait. Simply put, these are one of the best bands I've ever seen live in 30-odd years of gig going: hook-laden songs, excellent musicianship, abundant energy and sense of humour - they've got the lot. The show was excellent from start to finish, with some credit also being due to their roadies who kept them stocked with 16 or so different instruments, with Sol and Turid often playing two, and Anne Marit even playing as many as three, at once! The ladies came out afterwards to sign things and for photos and despite being tired, were just as friendly as their stage personas would suggest. Yes, I will see them again when they return, probably multiple times - the show was THAT good! The only downers were the level of background talking throughout and the three drunken oiks who elbowed their way to the front and who then started pogoing up and down with no regard for their fellow audience members.

That said, the recording came out pretty well - good sound on the night and as the PA was loud, audience clapping levels, while seemingly deafening (check out the audience singalong in RPS), needed little work. I've added a touch of eq and a bit of compression to tame the odd peaks, but I think this is a very good capture of the music and providing a record of all the 'atmosphere' in the venue.

As always, please support the artists by buying the albums and getting out to support at live shows.
