Here's something that might be new in this form to DIME from what I can gather through the dimebot archive. I got this in a long ago cd-r trade that came on 2 discs (the balance of disc 2 had 2 tracks of Charlie Haden's Quartet West). I can't recall who I got this from, but many thanks to them.
There's a shorter audio only share from this performance containing 4 tracks that was first up in 2005, and a few shares of a video including more tracks which was most recently up via lewojazz about 5 years ago. From what I can gather, this new share is a longer, and a possibly more complete version of this show through the inclusion of Aspire, which didn't seem to be part of the videos (including one that is running on youtube). The 2 short stage announcements from Kenny Wheeler also make it seem as though the order of songs here may be more correct-at least in terms of the songs that surround them.
As for the music, this is obviously a stellar Quintet that truly features 5 leaders in their own right. This goes back to the time where Kenny Wheeler's releases included Music for Large and Small Ensembles and The Widow in the Window on ECM. Some material from those albums is included here, and these musicians were involved in each of those recordings. The lineage I found on the dimebot archive showed that there were 2 different ORF TV broadcasts, so it's possible this audio connects in some way to either of them. The audio only shares from joerg and kinebee indicated an FM source. Not at all sure what we have here relative to those sources, beyond some fine compositions that are played by excellent musicians. Finally, this has been shared with the date I'm using, but also with 1990-03-xx, and I'm not sure as to what is actually correct. Any additional details that anyone might have can be shared in the comments below. In the meantime, enjoy...
