Taper notes:
I've been trying to see this multiple Grammy Award winning band live, up close and personal, ever since I first heard them when a friend played their
1987 Shaka Zulu CD for me. I did get an opportunity to see them on 2004-06-30 during their performance with Johnny Clegg & Savuko at The Montreal
Jazz Festival but it was rather impersonal and distant as well as on a huge scale & stage. That show does exist on pro-video somewhere, by the way.
When I found out that they were coming to my small town Kelowna, I was very pleased indeed and jumped at the opportunity to snatch up some quality
tickets in a nice small venue with great acoustics. Thankfully I got great tickets and the show was even better than I expected.
These guys were a whirlwind of energy, legs, arms, stomps and incredible voices. The leader, Joseph Shabalala, mesmerized the audience with his
stories and explanations (as well as a short language lesson) and the crowd was delighted by all their antics, costumes and wonderful singing.
Fight the Loudness War! No compression was used in the post-processing of this recording to preserve it's dynamic range, listenability and authenticity.
This recording will naturally sound much better cranked up loud with quality headphones!
Peace & enjoy,
Seth
