The Lee Boys
Waterfront Blues Festival
Portland, OR.
July 3, 2009

Recorded from KBOO FM a local all volunteer radio station. There are always reception problems and drops in sound from this station. Maybe it's just where I live. Anyway, I have tried to find and fix all the drops in sound. This year not all the first day was broadcast. Not sure why. Etta James canceled and was replaced by Keb Mo' but his recording contract wouldn't allow his broadcast.

Please understand that I don't know all these bands and it's hard for me to come up with all the set list's. I'll do my best and ask for help when needed.

Linage: FM tuner straight to HD>CD Wave>EAC with SBE's fixed>TLH>FLAC>torrent.

This is a big undertaking for me every year and I love doing it. Please leave your comments, I enjoy reading them. Enjoy the tunes, twofthrs

In the tradition of the Campbell Brothers and Robert Randolph & the Family Band, The Lee Boys serve up an undeniable slice of 'sacred steel' as only a real band of brothers can. Born out of the traditions of the House of God Church—where the howling, soaring voice of the steel guitar has dominated the fiery Pentacostal worship service for decades— the Lee Boys are proving that the world is their congregation.

The Lee Boys’ sacred steel style is rooted in gospel, but is infused with rhythm and blues, jazz, rock, funk, hip-hop, country, and world music genres in a powerfully jamming mix. When The Lee Boys bring their joyous spiritual sound to the stage, audiences instantly recognize that this is not "sitting and listening" music; dancing, shouting out, and having fun are considered essential parts of their tradition. As they did in their incendiary main stage set at the Waterfront four years ago, The Lee Boys will funkify your soul and help you see the musical light.

Over the past year, The Lee Boys have either sat in or been joined on stage by the Allman Brothers Band, Warren Haynes, Bob Weir, Los Lobos, Derek Trucks, Susan Tedeschi, The North Mississippi Allstars, and Victor Wooten. They recently headlined at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, High Sierra, Philadelphia Folk Festival and nearly 50 additional folk, jazz, blues, and arts festivals.

Impose Magazine said of The Lee Boys' 2008 Bonnaroo set: “...gospel-blues troupe the Lee Boys made Robert Randolph’s later-afternoon set feel like a let down. They were easily the find of the festival.”

The Lee Boys are flying in sacred steel legend Aubrey Ghent as a special treat for the Festival crowd. Ghent will be singing and playing lap steel on the Lee Boys' sets on July 3 only.

Aubrey Ghent is one of the older generation of sacred steel players, specializing in lap steel guitar, which preceeded the pedal steel in the house of God services. He has toured with Robert Randoph and he is featured on Robert's new album, produced by T-bone Burnett. He has also performed extensively with Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks.

He will be performing with The Lee Boys on their main stage set on July 3 and he will be performing on the late night show that evening before Karl Denson's Tiny Universe. Look for lots of dueling steel between Aubrey Ghent and The Lee Boys' Roosevelt Collier.
