LEE MICHAELS
1971-September-xx
Kiel Auditorium, St. Louis, MO

Here is a previously uncirculated tape. It was apparently taped on a Crowncorder
5" reel-to-reel using an auto-record feature that resulted in a somewhat distorted master.
The taper told me that he dubbed it to CD, did some EQ, and was pleased with the
results. This is pretty much what he shared with me (I re-tracked it). The setlist
is the same as one of the few commonly traded Lee Michaels tapes, Swing Auditorium
June 1971 (which I have also shared here). Unlike that show, where Michaels headlined
above Jo Jo Gunne, Long John Baldry, and Chuck Berry; on this particular evening,
he was the only performer. While the audio isn't anything to write home about, this
tape is nevertheless an important document of a tremendous live performer who,
it seems, was very rarely captured on tape in the concert setting. Enjoy!

** Lee Michaels played countless shows and music festivals, from the mid-1960s
through the 1970s, and less frequently thereafter. Surely, there must be more
out there than the few tapes that circulate. If you have any tapes or info, please
