The Birchmere is one of those magical venues where you make friends easily. I met Liam there recently, and he was so pleased with my recording that he mailed me his ticket when he couldn't make this show. I knew enough about Leo Kottke to expect a display of virtuosity but I was completely unfamiliar with his songs. I was pleased to discover that he delivers blazing instrumentals and songs with haunting vocals, all interspersed with his own brand of dry humor. In the end, it was another great night at the Birchmere. And, not surprisingly, we made more new friends.
