Total Time ::: 46:30
::: EXC mono TV studio line recording. Check samples for a quick prance in yr personal proving ground or instant intoxication.
::: Warts: ~20 minutes in middle has some quite low level static. The worst was removed & tis not problematic & would take insane work to remove entirely (even by my standards), so you'll have to eat it. No fears, a minor quibble, as it sounds EXC!
::: Live in TV studio before an audience.
::: Only Leon live "George Jackson" I know of & absolutely stunning. Leon played bass on Dylan's big band studio 45 version on 1971-11-04. Bob's '71 tribute to the Black Panther leader, who'd been recently killed by San Quentin Prison guards (which indirectly sparked the Attica Prison riots).
::: Track 5 "I Got The Blues" could just be Leon making it up as he goes along. Anyone know for sure?
::: Thanks to DIMER cheese for the frequency & spectrum analysis.
Recording Information ::: TV studio soundboard -> master line source recording -> unknown generations -> trade CD-R audio wav files.
Tested lossless in 2 programs & frequency spectrum analysis confirmed it. 2 channel mono but left channel had superior sound & a stronger signal, so twas used exclusively. DIMER cheese reports the signal is lossless & goes up to 17 or 18 kHz suggesting a non-broadcast source - some kind of direct transfer. Some low level fairly non-intrusive static thru the middle but much was removed manually, one click at a time.
Playback 2013-05-08 ::: WAV files in Audacity (fades, manual one-at-a-time glitch / pop / click repairs, volume adjustments, NO equalisation) -> CD Wave (track splits) -> Trader's Little Helper -> yer ears. First uploaded week of 2013-06-16.
Line-up ::: Leon Russell - piano, vocals // Don Preston - lead electric guitar, background vocals // Joey Cooper - electric guitar, background vocals // John Gallie - organ // Carl Radle - bass // Chuck Blackwell - drums.
Nothing here ever commercially released to my knowledge. If I'm wrong, please advise & I'll take the offending trax offline.
CoolSonics 255 ::: Thanks to the original taper & traders! ::: Corrections welcome ::: Astonishing. Overall a much steadier listen than the few other circulating Leon gigs of roughly this same vintage. An all male line-up of the Shelter People. Within a few months of my first Leon event; one that has helped shape my listening patterns for over 40 years now. Worth downloading for the only circulating (to my knowledge) version of Leon singing "George Jackson", but the whole show is totally right on - a delight. The master of space & time, in in the midst of what I would consider to be his best time on the planet. Enjoy!
Kudos to Zongo for life support, Lochner for mikes&more & Fast Freddie for runnin' Video Dick's Record Emporium with the bathroom office full of tape decks. Thanks to Hanwaker (few among us can keep his pace). Mountains of gratitude to Davmar, D.White, Sanchez, Elliot, The Florida Kid, Kloiber, Zingg, JTW, Bershaw, Boston Gold, Dixon, Moore, Gough & SO many more for all that collecting & sharing... Royal thanks to The Man In The Palace, Doc Tinker, Brinkhoffs, Barely Eatin', Reel Master Gaule, Parrish & all the traders who housed me thru my music acquisition & travel years. Hats off to Brother Kent, Uncle Jake, Little Queenie (& her neighbor Frank) & his honor Ptomaine Thomas. Enjoy, share, give, spread peace. Yers truly, Knees
