LenTalk:
***before BIRD ON THE WIRE (1):
Thank you. Thank you very much. It's very nice to be back here. It hasn't felt like this before since I can't remember when. It's been a long, long time.
***before HEY, THAT'S NO WAY TO SAY GOODBYE:
It is an old song.
***after THERE IS A WAR:
Thank you. I'd like to introduce the members of the band to you. Richard Crooks on drums! John Crowder on bass! Ron Getman on guitar and pedal steel! Mitch Watkins on electric guitar! And from voluptuous Hawaii, Anjani Thomas!
***before DIAMONDS IN THE MINE:
This is an old song about our little ...... even when there was a lot, there was a little. And now that there's a little, there's even less
***after DIAMONDS IN THE MINE:
Thank you very much. I know that there is a chocolate factory in Mannheim and I don't wish to offend the management by singing this song that says, "there are no chocolates in the boxes any more," because there ARE lots of chocolates in the boxes. I was just speaking figuratively.
***after DANCE ME TO THE END OF LOVE:
Anjani!
***before SO LONG, MARIANNE:
Thank you very much. We're gonna play one more song and we'll take an intermission and come back and play a lot more songs.
***after SO LONG, MARIANNE:
We'll be back soon. Thank you.
***before AVALANCHE:
[to a heckler] Pardon? That's coming up, coming up.
***before CHELSEA HOTEL #2:
Thank you very much. It was a long time ago in New York City... There was a very great singer who stayed at the same hotel that I stayed at and I used to meet her in the elevator late at night... She wasn't looking for me. She was looking for Kris Kristofferson. And to be indiscreet, I wasn't looking for her, I was looking for Brigitte Bardot. But through a curious twist of fate we found ourselves in the same elevator. A particularly dismal brown elevator full of aimless ups and downs and weakening with despair--this elevator--never took anyone where they wanted to go. It only took us back to our rooms. Anyhow, the hotel was the Chelsea Hotel... and the singer was Janis Joplin whose voice will never die.
***before THE STRANGER SONG:
You're very kind. Thank you.
***after THE STRANGER SONG:
Thank you.
***after STORY OF ISAAC:
Ron Getman!
***before LOVER, LOVER, LOVER:
(unintelligible).
***over LOVER, LOVER, LOVER intro:
Mitch Watkins!
***after LOVER, LOVER, LOVER:
Mitch Watkins on guitar!
On behalf of the band I want to thank you. I'd like to introduce my colleagues to you once again: on guitar and pedal steel - Ron Getman! On the bass - John Crowder! Master of space and time - Richard Crooks! Sage of the ...... strings, Mitch Watkins! The orchid that does not fade - Anjani!
***before I TRIED TO LEAVE YOU:
On behalf of my colleagues, I want to thank you for this very warm reception. It's hard to get back on the road after five years and your warmth has made it a hell of a lot easier. Thank you.
***after I TRIED TO LEAVE YOU:
Anjani Thomas! Mitch Watkins! Richard Crooks! John Crowder! Ron Getman! Dave Bradshaw on the sound!
***over MEMORIES coda:
Thanks, friends. Thank you so much! We're very very happy to play for you. Good night!
***before THE GUESTS:
[to a heckler asking for Who by Fire] Pardon? Pardon? Pardon? Would you please appoint a spokesman. Thank you.
***before BIRD ON THE WIRE (2):
Thank you very much, comrades. This has been an easy way back into the salt mine. Thank you very very much.
***before HEART WITH NO COMPANION:
Thank you, friends. Thank you.
***after HEART WITH NO COMPANION:
On behalf of the band, I want to thank you all for your very very warm reception. Thank you very much.
