LEONARD COHEN
The World at
Weybridge UK
11th July 2009
This is a pretty good audience recording considering the conditions - open air, wet and windy - recorded from one of the front blocks.
Unusually perhaps for an open air show, there is relatively little crowd noise with one notable exception. There was a bit of an "incident" at the start of the second set after a crowd of people went to stand in the space between the front row and the stage. You can hear security doing their best to clear the area - and the people seated in the front blocks get pretty upset as their enjoyment (and view) of the show is (temporarily) interrupted. However everything settles down after Tower of Song.
Otherwise there is a little talking at the beginning of the show as people take their seats and some intermittent noise from the rustle of waterproofs, none of which is intrusive. Unsurprisingly, the crowd noise increases during the encores but this merely reflects the atmosphere of the show and the triumph of the audience's enjoyment over the terrible conditions. The crowd sing along with enthusiasm and the louder noises are mainly between songs. You can hear the rain during the quieter bits.
