Its difficult to believe that its been five years since Leonard played the Capitol Theatre in Moncton, but indeed it has. Off we went to the Coliseum with some slight doubts because it was hard to imagine a show at the Coliseum that could stand up to the wonderful, intimate performance we witnessed at the Capitol Theatre in 2008. Our fears proved groundless because even though Leonard is well into his 78th year he delivers a show that takes a back seat to absolutely no one, and it seems that no matter the venue Leonard has the magic that draws you in as though he were performing just for you.
Its unique how Leonard begins singing several songs on his knees crouched over with his eyes closed, really living the song. When he rises it seems to take little effort, especially for a 78 year old. What really takes the cake though is how he skips offstage at the end of each set and also during the encores. You just cant help but feel love and warmth for him.
Of course the musicians he has are superb, and although Leonard doesnt drastically change the arrangements of his songs a la Bob, I noticed his phrasing was different in several. The band has no trouble keeping up with him and the overall sound is uniquely Leonards. The only quibble I have about the whole concert would be Leonard dropping the jah during Hallelujah. Maybe he just cant sing it that way now.
It was a wonderful evening. Leonard came on stage around 8:15 and didnt leave until 11:45 except for about a 25 minute intermission between the first and second sets. Simply remarkable.

Recording notes:
Leonard always introduces his band at least twice, and thats not counting the individual accolades he bestows during songs. His music is relatively quiet (sharp ears will hear the air conditioning in some spots)so this creates a problem of loud applause levels on recordings. Ive reduced them somewhat and in a couple of spots the transitions are quite noticeable. I no longer have the time and patience to try and make it perfect. The most annoying thing on the recording, as well as live, is the guy beside me who finished his beer during Waiting for the Miracle and decided to pop the top of the cup with his thumb for the remainder of the song. Mercifully he discarded the cup at the end of the song or there might not be a recording of the concert at all, because my blood pressure was rising fast and I may have had to cause him a mischief. Despite that, this is a very enjoyable recording of an extremely brilliant show.

Artwork is included. I made artwork for a 2 CD case for those who prefer to slip the third disc into the sleeve, and also for a 4 CD case for those who prefer that. As always, comments are welcome.
