Leslie West:Mannheim, Rosengarten (Musensaal) - December 14, 1988
(off my master, uncirculated)

After I recently uploaded my TYA headliner show of this date (torrent#557028), I was requested - quite understandably, I may say - by a few fellow-Dimers to also share Leslie West's support show. That I would have happily done instantly but the concert was still only on my original master cassette so I had to do a fresh transfer first - and that I wanted to do that as carefully as possible for best possible results, hence the slightdelay.

Ok, here's Lez West's surprise support show. For further infoon TYA's reunion, the circumstances ofmy taping, the venue etc, please check back to the info for the TYA show.

Info on:
a) the recording:
TYA were booked into the c. 1500-capacity Musensaal within the real beautiful, then just-restored Art Nouveau Rosengarten complex, that venue's second largest concert hall. That hall has a comfortable atmosphere and - best thing about it - galleries! So when the doors flew open I instantly rushed to the front of the audience left gallery which was an excellent place for having an unobstructed view down upon the stage. Since I was determined to document this show, I of course had my Sony D6C cassette walkman with me. My eked-out seat gave me the MOST PERFCT position imaginable to tape the show: I could run the cable with my newly acquired Nakamichi stereo condenser microphone (which I still use) over the balustrade and dangle the mic exactly in front of the stage right high-tone speaker. Ha, you get all the delicate treble combined with almost no audience noise, chatters, whistles or any of that crap. And as soon as the house lights went down no one could notice my recording equipment (which I had camouflaged black). Taper's heaven, you bet! Well, there was one enthused fan close to me who in the beginning whistled a few times, but I silenced him quickly. :-)
b) Lez West's show: Frank Marino was originally announced as the support act but he obviously backed out at the 11th hour. When I queued up in front of the entrance doors, I noticed they had attached a hand-written sheet of paper that read something to the effect of "Support: MOUNTAIN". You may imagine in what a sudden bliss I was to learn anotherof my fave bands would play an unannounced set! Can it get any cooler? Thank dog I had takenenough batteries and an extra cassette along with me, just in case and that sure was A CASE! I knew though that Mountain themselves had not reunited, so the band that would appear wasactually "Leslie West". BTW, Lez always chose to tour as "Mountain" if Corky Laing was in, and as "Leslie West (Band)" without him. The line-up that night was Ritchie "The Bat" Scarlett on bass and vocalsand Joe Franco (ex of Twisted Sister)on drums who had been featured on Lez' then latest album "THEME" from 1987 (which also had contributions from Jack Bruce, BTW).

Lez contributed an interesting 55 min. set and the recording went without any hassles.Since I was seated at the very stage right front of the gallery with a view into the stage left wing, I could see clearly and remember vividly how after his set Lez'remained in the wings, was hanving a good time, watching TYA's show, fooling around, making grimaces at Alvin, flipping the bird at him with both hands etc. And poor Alvin did notice! :-)
And yet again, my Personal Pillorying Pleasure and ceterum censeo: Screw you Sh*tyoda F*ckords, this show is NOT MEANT FOR SALE. I know you give a sh*t but I take my freedom to tell you what I think of you (and likeminded crookleggers).
Please do NOT sell this show or spread it in lossy formats - otherwise: trade, share, collect and enjoy! Always looking forward to your comments and possibly even further info...
