My brother in Indianapolis mentioned to me that this concert was taking place, and I asked him
to tape this for me. He agreed to do so, even buying the necessary equipment out of pocket. This
was his first time taping anything. He did a great job and the quality is excellent and clear. He
forwarded the audio file to me, where I did some light editing and channel balancing.
There was a seat dispute of some kind during Wynton's spoken introduction at the very beginning,
and I chopped out a few seconds when they started asking the taper about his own seat.
Fortunately, it all quieted down a few seconds before the music started.
Apparently Ellis Marsalis Jr. is quite frail and had to be helped on and offstage.
There were only a handful of concerts with the entire family together onstage with LCJO, and so we
are lucky to have this historic event captured in such high quality. The last few seconds of
the final number were cut as the audience was walking out and the taper had no choice but to turn
off the recorder. I added a fade there, but nothing of any major consequence is missing. Enjoy!
