Lindisfarne - Newcastle City Hall 2016-12-23

Of all the Lindisfarne shows I've seen in recent years, this one is (probably) the best. For me (and a lot of folk, I suspect) it's a somewhat cathartic experience, almost overwhelming at times. Takes me right back.

Same line up as last year, but a few different numbers making their way into the setlist. The "biggies" were there in all their glory, but also a few for the harder core fans. Much doffing of caps to Alan Hull...and much appreciated.

Excellent crowd. Average age, about 102, but well up for a good night. In great voice and cheer (all the way home, as it turned out...).

The only sadness was seeing Charlie Harcourt's deterioration in health, these days sat on a stool and fed oxygen through tubes into his nose.

OK, so this might not be the classic line up. But, the people on that stage all had claim to be there, and the music mattered to every last one of them. Quality music played enthusiastically (although Paul Thompson's drumming's a little too enthusiastic for my tastes, but...).

There'e a lot of humanity in Lindisfarne's music, a lot of reflection on life that strikes a chord with all of us. A woderful experience which I recommend you all to make the effort and witness next time out.

Wishing everyone a healthy and happy 2017.
