i�ve been grabbing every chance i can to see kyle field�s little wings ever since i first encountered him, drunkenly leaping round the stage as devendra banhart�s bass player back in� well� way back when

while the charms of dev have faded over the years, kyle just keeps on getting better and better

i think this is the first time i�ve seen him with a band - rather than winging it solo on some 10 bucks a day jaunt

he�s in europe, opening for angel olsen

but this is a day-off solo show

and the hits just keen on coming

in a packed islington assembly hall show back in april, he got short shrift from kimya dawson�s partisan crowd

tonight he plays to just fifty or so folks

but every one of them is absolutely in thrall to his lyrical twists and turns

his flow is mesmerising

hip-hop complexity on a beat up acoustic and a cocktail drum kit

(check out his take on lil� wayne�s �promise� as closer)

nice harmonies from sparrows gate main man, zeb zaitz, too

if there was any justice, kyle field would live the life of a man who never needs to wear shoes

instead he looks like he owns one pair

it�s toes out in flip-flops tonight - never mind that frosty november weather

and a little bit of big sur warms our jaded east london cockles

or maybe it�s just this back-room concrete sweat box

whatever, we all surf home on a big wave of happiness
