editing to remove surface noise 1 pop at a time with Audacity and then converted to 16-44 > CD Wav > Flac (Level 8)

This came from a customer (Shaun Walsh) who brought this used record into where I worked in the 70's (Slipped Disc Records in Los Angeles).
Recorded it on a TDK SA-C90 with the store cassette deck.
I was a little disappointed because of all the surface noise and so this sat unplayed for a long time.

Bringing this cassette back to life in the digital age was a time consuming task.
I removed as many of the clicks and pops as I could.
Audacity has the repair function which worked great in removing the spikes associated with the pops and crackles (you just have to find them).
Sometimes the repair did not work and a few milliseconds needed to be removed to erase the spike.
Doing this was no quick job as there were literally thousands of noises removed from this recording.
It seemed impossible but I just kept plugged away a little at a time until it was as good as I was going to get it.
Some noises just would not reveal themselves to the edit button and so remain after all of this work.

As this is a copy from the vinyl promotional LP distributed by CBS this is a very clear recording.
Just for a shock I am including a 15 second sample of the beginning of the raw file with all of the pops.
I hope you agree that it is much better now and can forgive what surface noise remains.
