Taper Notes:
Thanks to Mando Tavarez, Los Lobos soundman, Kipp Stork, SLO Brew house soundman, the staff at
SLO Brew (for being so accommodating), Dan Gale, and of course, The Wolves Of East LA!
Sergio Mendoza Y La Orkestra opened.
I brainstormed last week and built a little shelf out of a small 2x4 block and a small piece of
plywood to mount my Atlas microphone bar onto. I put in two ring bolts into the front so I could
bungie cord it to the front ceiling post next to the stage, and painted it black. (The problem I
had before when I mounted just the mic brace to the post was that it resulted in limited
positioning of the microphones). This worked like a dream! I strapped the little shelf to the
post, about 10 feet off the floor, and positioned the mics in an ORTF pattern. I taped the 35 ft
cables down back to the board (Thanks Bill!!!), so I could run the electronics in the safety of
the board area, protected from the crowd.
The ceiling post makes for a Great mic stand! It's about 8-9 feet from the center of the stage
and keeps the microphones safe from the crowd. It is concrete, and acts as a good isolation mount
from the vibration on the floor.
