Los Topotos - Jazz Gallery, NYC – 7 January 2010
Since many seemed to like the Composure seed earlier today and since I have rediscovered the pleasures of uploading, here is another recent Tim Berne concert.
Now that Tim's latest band Snake Oil is getting started on its European tour, I thought this was a good time to reseed Sake Oil's forerunner, Los Topotos.
I've always thought Tim Berne was more than just a little original in his choice of band names; you won't likely hear of the Tim Berne Downtown All Stars soon (at least, that's what I hope). I was always intrigued by how he did it, and then I found out that he often starts from titles of compositions (Hard Cell, Shell Game, Composure, ...) which then seem to take on a band, rather than the other way round.
The only band name I never liked at all, was 'Los Topotos', and lo! Tim must have listened, because he has now changed the same band into 'Snake Oil'. Whatever it may mean. So, the band got together about two years ago, played a couple of gigs, never made it to Europe as far as I know ... but luckily we do have at least one gig.
I probably downloaded this here in January 2010, but I have forgotten who the taper was. I also seem to be short on original information, except for the fact that it was an audience tape.
So : original taper audio
reseed : CDR > EAC > WAV > Wavepad Sound Editor (upped music levels by 20%, left audience at 100%) > flac frontend (level 8) > Dime
For you to enjoy!
