NOTES:
This is the first known recording of Lou’s stop in Sheffield, UK, during the first leg of the Sally Can’t Dance tour! This was generously offered to me by weapons.etc (check out his Instagram page for tons of rare Lou images and sounds!).
Despite the original owner’s claim that this was from the mixing desk, I think it’s more likely that it was recorded from the audience on a handheld deck (perhaps a reel-to-reel). You can even briefly hear the tapers discussing microphone issues on Track 7. The sound is very weak in one channel.
Here is information from the original source of the recording, who did not want to be identified - (no grammar/punctuation edits):
“having been brought up on my big brother’s VU, then Reed solo, my first ever gig the 1st UK tour, now this one, …. I was obsessed…. as soon as the house lights dimmed, we’d (I can’t remember who I was with) run down the front, before the aged stewards could tackle …. front of the stage, … they’d given up trying to stop anyone now”
“I was at Lou’s feet throughout, …. I think it was this gig (it was a while back) where the songs we all know and love were arranged in a kind of somewhere between Rock n Roll Animal meets Sally Can’t Dance … funkier than previous, funkier than RnRA & Live, …..”
“I met this guy 10 years later, who’s big brother was a bit of a Roady … or perhaps he was just a thief, because he stole Garry Glitter’s jacket, …. they rehearsed somewhere near here …. but that’s another story…. anyway, he “borrowed” a cassette recorded from the mixing desk of this particular gig ….. I guess they had a dodgy connection from the desk because it’s on 1 channel only”
ENJOY!
