"Street Hassle" European Tour 1978
10 August: Eindhoven, Holland
11 August: Leiden, Holland
12 August: Amsterdam, Holland
13 August: Bilzen JazzRock Festival, Belguim
?? August: Cologne (?), Germany I do not think this concert happened.
After some warm-up shows at the Bottom Line in New York, the tour to promote "Street Hassle" started on the west coast in March 1978 and then rolled across North America with Lou reputedly drunk and stoned for much of it (but still giving some killer performances). There was supposed to be a follow-on European tour but this (mostly) fell through for reasons not known to me: the end result was a 4 or 5 date visit to Holland and Belgium in August. It's never been absolutely clear whether or not there was also a show in Cologne - I do not think so. Lou was also scheduled to headline an open-air festival at Charlton Athletic's football stadium in London on July 22nd, but that festival was cancelled. There is a Dutch press advertisement for a show in Groningen on 12 August, but that conflicts with this date.
This is the tail-end of the "Take No Prisoners" tour: same band, similar set list, but no jokes from Lou. Long, long versions of some songs - "Waiting" lasts over 16 minutes!. And there's a nice jammed intro to "I Wanna Be Black". It's a pity the recording is not better quality. The L and R channels are quite unbalanced, and the sound quality seems to vary from song to song but that's how it is on my cassette. The crowd are very noisy.
A small part of this show was filmed on (silent) colour 8mm film.
RIP Lou
