"New York" was Lou's first LP for the Sire label, recorded in 1988 and released in January 1989. It was widely acclaimed as a welcome return to form, and even sold reasonably well (for a Lou Reed release. 1989 itself was a very busy year for Lou - in January he and John Cale had performed a "work in progress" version of "Songs For Drella" at the St Ann's Church in Brooklyn and they would premier the finished version in December.

In between those shows, Lou embarked on a word-wide tour and visited every radio station that would have him. This "Rockline" Show caught him in a San Fransisco studio, talking about "New York", taking some phone calls and playing some of the more radio-friendly songs. He, Mike and Rob really rise to the occasion: these are great individual performances from the musicians and very nice vocals from Lou.
