This torrent represents the last installment of the R. Geistert Fehmarn recordings and collects all the little snippets and partially recorded bands from Friday, September 4th 1970, which marked the first day of the 3-day festival. The Friday was cut short due to pouring rain and problems with electricity onstage. The tape starts with a short snippet of an unknown band (at least to me). This band remains a mystery, as so far, only Cravinkel were known to have played before Burning Red Ivanhoe, but this is not Cravinkel. There was either another band on Friday afternoon, or this is a snippet that was accidentally added later from a band on Saturday, but I think that is rather unlikely. Any help is welcome. After that, we have "Medardus" from Burning Red Ivanhoe. In the complete version of first source of 8mm footage from the festival, we can see Burning Red Ivanhoe playing in relatively windy, but stable weather conditions. The bands that played after Burning Red Ivanhoe faced very bad conditions though, as it started to rain heavily and Ford Crull, roadie for Fotheringay reported, that Sandy Denny kept getting electric shocks from the microphone and at some point had to stop the concert. We sadly have only a snippet of "Memphis Tennessee", which sounds very good though. Next we have "Kings and Queens" from the Renaissance concert, which had to be stopped as well due to the rain. The group is featured here in their transitional line-up with Terry Crowe and Binky Cullom on vocals. After Renaissance, no other announced group was able to play, except for the John Surman Trio, which reportedly played a set very late at night. In an interview I did with Chris Farlowe from Collosseum in 2009, he confirmed to me that they did in fact try to play and actually were onstage already, but the wind and the rain blew into their faces so hard that it was impossible to start the show. Whenever there were short signs of weather improvements, Alexis Korner tried to save the show and played some songs on his own, as well as accompanied by another singer and guitarist and a saxophone / flute player. On this reel we have 4 tracks of Alexis Korner at Fehmarn. At the beginning of the third track, Alexis does announce both of the accompanying musicians , but I could not identify the names for sure. Any help is welcome. Peter Torg (or Torb) and Rick Warney is what I hear. The second Alexis Korner track is distorted for the first half, due to the taper not properly checking the recording volume. I left everything as it was recorded for the sake of completeness. After the last track, Alexis Korner announces in German that "now the rain is hitting the amplifiers again and it gets dangerous, so will say goodbye until it is a bit drier". As a final 2 second snippet, we have the request from stage to "Baut die Zelte ab!", which means "take down the tents"...as many of the fans had camped right in front of the stage to cope with the rain. This snippet comes from Saturday.

And there you have it. This is the R. Geistert Fehmarn tape in all its weirdness. I hope you find it interesting and enjoy these artefacts.
