NOTES:

Sharon Van Etten is headlining Bitterzoet, ably supported by English
songstress Lyla Foy. And what a pleasant surprise the young Londoner turns out
to be!

This is why I record all supporting artists as a matter of course. There isn't
always time to research each one prior to the gig and you never know what
you'll miss if you don't record them. Sometimes you stand there yawning, but
every now and again, a talented but still relatively unknown artist crosses
your path.

That talented but still relatively unknown artist is here tonight and goes by
the name of Lyla Foy. Her soft melodies lift and enchant. From the chorus of
opening number 'Left To Wonder', she has my attention and doesn't relinquish
control until the end of her 35 minute set.

I suspect we'll be hearing more from this young lady in the next couple of
years. I reward her performance with a CD purchase on my way out.

The recording is an excellent one. Put on your headphones and you'll imagine
yourself squeezed into the tiny subterranean sweatbox on the Spuistraat that
is Bitterzoet.

As always, samples are included to help you determine whether the recording is
worth your while.

As luck would have it, I'll be seeing Lyla again at the start of July, when
she revisits Amsterdam to support Phosphorescent.
