Here is one of the most interesting Skynyrd shows out there. Disc 1 is the only known
recording of a Skynyrd soundcheck. Ronnie Van Zant is not present. Ronnie rarely did
soundchecks, as he wanted to save his voice for the show. Steve Gaines sings Ain't No Good
Life, That Smell(!!!), and the 1964 "Jumpin'" Gene Simmons hit "Haunted House". The jams
are interesting, and there are parts that may have some day become Skynyrd songs had the
plane crash not happened. The last jam did in fact form the basis of You Got That Right
later that year. The sound is not great on the soundcheck and it may run a little slow,
but it's still worth listening to.
All you need to know about the show later that night: it's a kick ass Skynyrd show from
1977 with decent sound.
